Irrawady Scenes
The banks of Irrawady River.
My dad used to live in a village about 1.5 hour boat ride from here. And as we traveled toward his hometown, the stories he used to tell me when I was younger came back to me; in colour.
There were fields of Thenn Pin or the palm tree that is used to make jaggery (a sweet caramel candy) that all the kids love and plam wine, which all the men loved. There were also fields of peanuts, cabbages and plum trees. And throughout the ride, I am amazed by the adaptiveness and the will of these plants that survive in this dry savvanah heat.
The occupants of this land also show case these traits as they battle droughts and the heat to go about their daily lives.
